So the preliminary days of changing my eating ways are finally here! I attended Andrew's (one of my Crossfit trainers http://www.canyoncrossfit.net/) seminar today and have signed up for the Nutritional Experience! (http://performancenutritionexperience.tumblr.com/) The first 30 days, the "Whole30" are going to be intense. For 30 days, starting January 21, I will be 100% committed to this. No carbs, no sugars, no processed food! Just clean and healthy eating.
This is going to be an interesting journey that I will be on..and it's not going to be easy. But as I was reminded this morning, quitting heroine is difficult, not changing my diet for the rest of my life. I think what appeals to me more than anything is that this isn't some lose weight quick diet. This is how can I be healthy for the rest of my life. It seems like most people are just concerned with losing weight, and they want immediate results. I know I am one of those people. Things that come quickly, fade quickly. And what I love about this program is that it is integrating exercise with the nutritional aspect of being healthy.
Now, as most everyone knows by now, I cannot exercise for the time being and I don't know when I will be back to the gym and how my back is going to respond. Having a herniated disc is something that I have to live with and be cognizant of for the rest of my life. That's what is really motivating me to be a part of this experience. My whole "work out and eat what you want" attitude isn't going to work anymore. I did give up eating carbs when I first started Crossfit back in October, so that part isn't going to be as difficult. I did allow myself a cheat day one a week, so it is going to be interesting giving up my Porto's and Ben & Jerry's ice cream. Oh and my In-N-Out.. Sigh.. Oh well! It will all be worth it in the long run...
Anywho, enough of my whining. I am going to read through the material I received today and set up my initial goals. I am pretty sure my biggest goal right now is strengthen my back enough to get me back into the gym.. And I know not to force it! We will see what I come up with when I fill out my experience sheet. I will post before and after pictures after the first month. Saturday will be my offical Day 1. Between today and tomorrow I will read and create my initial shopping list. Once assembled, I am off to Trader Joe's to get my healthy shopping on! Woohoo!!
Here is my biggest concern.. for those who don't know me very well, I am a bad cook. So, your support and advice will be essential throughout this first month. Also..pray I don't burn down my kitchen! Recipes are also appreciated, and I know the web will be my friend. That's all I have got for now. I will try to blog every day, but who knows how well that will work with my schedule. I think that's enough for now!
Thank you for taking time to read this and helping me on this journey! Let the 30 days of fun begin!! :)
Good luck with your new journey, I'm so proud to call you a friend. I love and will be praying for you!!!! <3
